Electrotherapy is one of the most effective methods of the physiotherapy for reducing the acute and chronic pain (TENS), as well for the functional nerves and muscle stimulation (FES).
These procedures are performed with the Neuro – track device.
TENS procedures are performed applying on the skin special sticky electrodes and changing the electric
current impulses, frequency and intensity. Special sensory nerve fibers are stimulated
and they reach the spinal cord faster and block the pain bringing nerve fibers, this
way the pain is reduced. Short impulses 0.1 – 0.5 ms current block the process of
pain transmitting to the CNS, because they activate the nerve fibers, which make
the endogen opioides more active, also increase the serotonin and thus the acute and
chronic pain is reduced. The procedure is pleasant and not dangerous. The patient
feels gentle tingling and pricking in the areas of the electrodes.
The minimums course is 3 – 5 procedures. It is possible to repeat the treatment
course after 2 – 4 weeks. One procedure lasts for 10 – 20 min., up to 40 minutes and
performed every day, even some times a day.
It is performed transcutaneously with special sticky electrodes, changing the electric current, duration, frequency and intensity. The motoric nerve
fibers are stimulated and so the muscle is made to contract. During this procedure the
healing of the nerves becomes faster, increases metabolism and circulation, as well as
the nourishment of the tissues.
Minimum treatment duration and doses are the same as TENS therapy. However, the
intensity in FES should be much more stronger and it is determined for each patient
individually. The procedure is pleasant and not dangerous. During the procedure the
patient feel the contraction of the muscles.
